- Date posted
- Description
- Scientists have documented what may be the first instance of a wild wolf using a tool, according to footage published in the journal Ecology and Evolution.
Although the intelligence of wolves is well known, the discovery adds to an expanding list of animals capable of manipulating tools to forage for food, a trait once thought to be unique to humans.
“It’s not a surprise they have the capacity to do this,” said Kyle Artelle, an ecologist with the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry who published the footage. “Yet our jaw dropped when we saw the video.”

- Creatine is a waste of money unless you do this
- Date posted
- Description
- Creatine has gotten a lot of attention for its supposed ability to improve strength and cognitive function. There’s some validity to the creatine stampede: Multiple randomized controlled trials have found that creatine supplementation can create small but real boosts in upper and lower body strength, but only when combined with resistance training.
Without resistance training, creatine supplementation is useless, according to Dr. Trisha Pasricha, a physician at Harvard Medical School and The Washington Post’s Ask a Doctor columnist.
You need to be doing exercises specifically designed to strengthen muscles (such as sit-ups, push-ups or lifting weights) at least two times a week. Otherwise, you should skip creatine. Some people start at three to five grams a day, but for women, a higher dose might be helpful. Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube: https://wapo.st/2QOdcqK

- Newly released documents appear to show convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein texting with Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands) during a 2019 hearing with President Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen.
After the story published Friday evening, Plaskett’s office issued a statement:
“During the hearing, Congresswoman Plaskett received texts from staff, constituents and the public at large offering advice, support and in some cases partisan vitriol, including from Epstein,” the statement read. “As a former prosecutor she welcomes information that helps her get at the truth and took on the GOP that was trying to bury the truth. The congresswoman has previously made clear her long record combating sexual assault and human trafficking, her disgust over Epstein’s deviant behavior and her support for his victims.” Read more: https://wapo.st/4oKtbX8. - Andrew Otazo’s day begins before dawn, when he packs up for hours of trash collecting.
“I never, ever in a million years thought people would pay attention to me because I’m picking up trash,” Otazo said.
It’s a mission now.
Growing up in Miami, Otazo remembers exploring the red mangrove forests as a 13-year-old. Mangroves are a protected species in Florida because of their importance to shoreline stability and also because they provide safe havens for wildlife.
As an adult, he noticed something else about the mangroves.
“I went in looking for peace and serenity, but I came out furious,” Otazo said. “Literally everywhere I stepped, I stepped on trash.”
So he started taking trash bags with him. A couple of bags grew into a couple dozen. Otazo said he has no plans to stop. Read more: https://wapo.st/4868kYf. Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube: https://wapo.st/2QOdcqK
