He kept flying home for the holidays, but every visit left him with headaches and anxiety as he tried to “shapeshift” into someone his family would love. So he stopped going — and it has been “the most liberating decision” of his life.
Jeff offers advice for those with similar situations and still going home: Go strategically, protect your peace and keep certain parts of yourself off-limits. Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube: https://wapo.st/2QOdcqK

Drugmakers are testing once-a-day pills and next-gen GLP-1 injectables that could be easier to use, cheaper to distribute and available to far more people. One expert we spoke with said this could be a “Henry Ford moment” for obesity treatment — with potential benefits beyond weight loss, including improvements in inflammation and metabolic health. The fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, a northeastern district in Hong Kong’s New Territories, just before 3 p.m. local time, authorities said. Officials have not yet commented on the cause of the blaze.
Construction work was underway on the towers before the fire, and falling debris and scaffolding from the buildings pose an additional risk to the public and emergency personnel, authorities said at the news conference.

- Date posted

- Description
- Tristan Pineiro, Grindr’s senior vice president of brand marketing, was immediately interested in partnering with Rainbow Wool, a company that rescues non-procreative, male-oriented (for our purposes: “gay”) sheep. Because they don’t produce new offspring, some farmers consider them an economic drag.
Rainbow Wool was hoping Grindr would sponsor some sheep on the farm or work together on an ad campaign on the app. But Pineiro envisioned something bigger: a fashion show using the wool from gay sheep. The name: “I Wool Survive.”
The gay sheep dovetailed with Pineiro’s global vision for the brand. “The sheep are a kind of metaphor for all of us,” Pineiro said. “Because they’re gay, they get discarded. They get thrown aside because they don’t conform to what they’re supposed to.”
And so Pineiro went “looking for a gay designer to put on a gay show.” Through publicist Kelly Cutrone, he found Michael Schmidt — a designer...

- Japan has so many bear attacks that the military is now taking action
- Date posted
- Description
- The bears are in the streets. They are on the sidewalks of rural roads. They are on airport runways. And they are attacking humans in record numbers, according to a flurry of warnings from the Japanese government.
The increase in attacks is prompting foreign governments to issue warnings and Japanese officials to deploy troops and authorize police officers to shoot the animals.
A declining human population in rural areas, combined with a growing bear population and a poor harvest of a key food source this year, is likely behind the increase in bear attacks, experts say.
“Bears living in such conditions have likely become less wary of humans,” said Shinsuke Koike, a professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, who studies Asiatic black bears.

- Date posted
- Description
- Newly released documents appear to show convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein texting with Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands) during a 2019 hearing with President Donald Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen.
The Washington Post reviewed multiple video feeds from the hearing and matched the texts, which were sent in Pacific Time, with the video.
Epstein had deep ties to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he formerly owned a pair of private islands. A 2023 Business Insider investigation showed that Epstein donated large sums of money to U.S. Virgin Islands politicians, including to Plaskett.
The copies of the text messages were included in a trove of thousands of pages of documents containing Epstein’s emails and other communications released on Nov. 12 by the House Oversight Committee. The messages show Epstein was invested in what Cohen was sharing about Trump, the financier’s former friend, during his testimony. Read more: https://wapo...
