- Description
- Stretching across 455 miles of Interstate 80, a bold artistic experiment once sparked one of Nebraska’s biggest cultural debates.
In the 1970s, the I-80 Sculpture Project placed large-scale modern art installations at rest stops across the state — part of America’s Bicentennial celebration. But not everyone agreed with the vision.
This Nebraska Stories segment explores the controversy, creativity, and lasting legacy of these sculptures — and how something once debated has become part of Nebraska’s identity.
