The City of Las Vegas Courtyard Homeless Resource Center can serve up to 500 individuals a day. Everyone is welcome at the courtyard, including pets. The Courtyard is a one-stop-shop with the working model: Hired, Housed, Healthy. 98 percent of those working at the courtyard homeless resource center have experienced homelessness. We met with Harlan Thompson, who once slept on the street outside the courtyard. Harlan received assistance from the resource center and began volunteering at the courtyard before later being offered a job. And now, 5 years later—he’s the program manager, proudly showing us around the center.

Nestled in the heart of downtown, Las Vegas High School is the very first High School to be built in Las Vegas. The school opened its doors in 1930 and has educated local high school students for nearly a century, up until 1993 when a new school campus was built on the East end of Sahara Avenue to carry on the proud name and tradition of Las Vegas High School. After 63 years of operation, the old downtown campus was renamed the Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts. Recently the campus had the proud honor of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The listing recognizes the school’s architectural significance and its importance to the history of education in Las Vegas.

In the last month three students were arrested in three separate assaults on teachers and staff at Las Vegas Valley Schools. The school district is taking steps to control the violence, but students and teachers are still feeling unsafe.
We had the chance to catch up with some youth that participate in the city of Las Vegas Batteries Included program. The teens come together to deliver an important message aimed at letting others know they are not alone and that there is support out there.

In this episode, you will meet Las Vegas Becky Mintz who suddenly found herself in need of a heart transplant after blood clots were found in her heart. Thanks to the gift of organ donation from an 18 year old man, Becky got the gift of life. She now lives a full life, filled with wonderful memories and moments. She is also a volunteer with the Nevada Donor Network to support those waiting to receive a transplant.

If you're looking for public art in Las Vegas, check out the COVID murals exhibit. These are murals that were painted by Las Vegas artists when the mandate to shut down the city hit in March of 2020. The city of Las Vegas offered grants to small businesses to cover the windows of their establishments to prevent break-ins during the shut down as long as the business owners made sure the plywood was turned into works of art. Those murals are no longer needed to cover windows but they are too beautiful to dispose of so they've been taken out of storage and put into an exhibit.
