- Last Friday, Oct. 28, the Fort Collins community got to see its two best schools battle it out for the city championship, Poudre (3-1, 7-2) and Fossil Ridge (3-1, 7-2). The game also concludes an impressive 2022 campaign for both squads. Rowdy fans, calm winds, and a chilly night welcomed the game's opening kickoff. However, the trend of the contest was one way. Fossil Ridge dominated the Impalas on both sides of the ball. Poudre could not get anything going on offense while the Sabercats moved down the field seamlessly. Tyler Kubat threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns, forwarding an obliterating 38-6 performance over the cross-town rivals. Though this might seem like the end of the world for Poudre, that's far from it, as the 18-seeded Impalas get another significant crack at it Thursday against 15-seeded Legend in the first round of the 5A CHSAA Football Playoffs. - Last Saturday, Colorado State Football (1-1, 1-5) hosted Hawaii (1-1, 2-5) at Canvas Stadium for a Mountain West afternoon duel. The State Pride Game for the Rams was a nail-biter throughout, with the Rainbow Warriors striking first on a Matthew Shipley 27-yard field goal after the offense was stuffed inside the red zone. CSU would respond on a field goal of its own by Michael Boyle before Hawaii capitalized on the game's first touchdown score early in the second quarter. An additional 3-pointer would send the contest to half in favor of the Rainbow Warriors, 13-3. However, CSU persisted, opening up the running game as Avery Morrow powered his way in for two touchdowns, giving the Rams a huge confidence boosting win at home, 17-13. The Rams now pivot for, by far, their biggest conference test of the year, traveling farther into the northern rockies for a date with Boise State. - The Colorado State volleyball team lost their first matchup against conference foe Boise State 3-1 in Moby Arena last Thursday. The Rams played Boise during what was their annual "pink out" game to celebrate people who have survived cancers of all forms. The Rams honored former teammate and current CSU senior Maddie Boles who had to medically retire from volleyball after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and Lupus. The Rams lost the first set in a back and forth affair 28-26, but picked up the second set 25-21. Unfortunately the Rams were unable to continue this success as they dropped the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-20. Naeemah Weathers led with 13 kills for the Rams, also tallying the most blocks in the game with 6. The Rams went on to beat Utah State on the road 3-1 to bounce back from this tough home conference loss.

- The Colorado State football team took on the Utah State Aggies for their annual homecoming game. The Rams got off to a hot start, with Colorado State linebacker Cam'Ron Carter intercepting a pass from Utah State quarterback Cooper Legas on the first drive of the game. The Rams offense however could not capitalize and settled for a Michael Boyle field goal. This set the tone for the rest of the game with both teams showing precious little throughout the remainder of the game. Avery Morrow had the only touchdown for the Rams on a 26-yard dash. The Rams actually led 10-7 at halftime but were unable to produce much in the second half. With a 10 point swing by Utah State in the second half, including a 4-yard scamper into the end zone by Utah State third-string quarterback Bishop Davenport, the Aggies took the lead 17-10 and held that lead until the end of the game. The Rams look to bounce back next weekend as they face Hawaii for State Pride.

- On Saturday, Oct. 8, CSU Volleyball (5-0, 12-4) welcomed San Jose State (5-0, 11-4) to Moby Arena for a critical Saturday afternoon clash. Both squads entered this one undefeated in the Mountain West, but one would leave the gym spoiled. Unfortunately for Rams fans, it was the Spartans that came out victorious. Though the contest was back-and-forth throughout, even requiring a fifth set, SJSU proved to be too much for CSU and, in the end, sheathed the Rams their first conference loss of the season, 3-2. With a huge road win, the Spartans now separate themselves at the top of the league standings, remaining as its only unbeaten team. All this and more from CTV Sports!

- On Friday, Oct. 14, Fossil Ridge High School (6-1, 2-0) faced off against cross-town foes Rocky Mountain High School (4-3, 1-1) at Timnath Stadium for a rivalry showdown under the lights. On their first two possessions, the Sabercats cruised down the field rather easily and into the red zone, but only mustered three points combined from those two trips. On the succeeding drive, senior QB Tyler Kubat, coming off an injury, spotted sophomore WR Marcus Mozer streaking down the middle of the field for a long, 48-yard touchdown catch. The Lobos would respond with a TD run by Abe Chatila to cap off an impressive drive, sending the game to halftime in a tight affair, 10-7. However, the Fossil offense found its groove, scoring three unanswered that paved the way for an easy 31-14 win. The Sabercats will now prepare for a marquee matchup with Fairview (7-1, 3-0) at home next Friday, as both teams sit atop the 5A League 3 Standings. - Last Friday, Oct. 7, French Field hosted Homecoming Night for Fort Collins High School as the Lambkins dueled it out with Rocky Mountain High School under the lights. Both teams were coming off of embarrassing losses in the Canvas Community Classic and entered this one with rejuvenation on their minds. Unfortunately for the Lambkins, their losing skid now extends to seven games, as they fell to the Lobos, 21-0. Rocky senior HB Abe Chatila was the star of the night, carrying the ball 26 times for 159 yards and one touchdown. Although the Fort Collins offense was completely shut down, especially the running game (-9 total rushing yards as a team), senior QB Ez Champos had a solid performance, throwing for nearly 200 yards. CTV reporter Leah Cackowski breaks down the action from the field, as both clubs gear up for highly-contested matchups on Frida; Rocky meets Fossil Ridge (6-1, 2-0) while Fort Collins battles Fairview (6-1, 2-0). - On Sunday, Oct. 2, the CSU Women's Soccer team (4-3-4) invited the Utah State Aggies (5-3-5) to Fort Collins for an afternoon contest. Unlike the Rams most recent matches, this one contained much action around the net. Just five minutes in, Utah State midfielder Alex Day opened the scoring with a majestic launch from well outside the box. Still early in the first half, CSU defender Taylor Bee responded with a beautiful volley from Carolina Lucas. Fast forward to the 50th minute, and Utah State regained the lead courtesy of a turnaround boot by Aggie forward Sammie Murdock. CSU would then even it up again when Liv Layton defeated the one-on-one defender with a slick left-foot tap to the right corner of the net. In an entertaining and competitive contest, the fixture ended in a 2-2 draw. CTV Reporter Mike Walsh breaks down the action from the pitch as the Rams, though still without a loss in conference play, will look to nonetheless pad the win column tonight at UNLV. - On Friday Sept. 30, Canvas Stadium welcomed the four main Fort Collins Area high schools, Poudre, Fossil Ridge, Rocky Mountain, and Fort Collins for the inaugural Canvas Community Classic. The first matchup starred the Rocky Mountain Lobos and the Poudre Impalas. Both teams sported strong records entering this one, with Rocky Mountain at 3-2 and Poudre at 4-1, suggesting a highly-contested matchup. And it proved that way in the first 24 minutes, as Poudre and Rocky Mountain running backs Saje Camirand and Abe Chatila respectively exchanged touchdowns early. However, it spiraled out of control for the Lobos from there. Turnovers paved the way for 27 unanswered points that led to an easy 34-7 victory for the Impalas. CTV Reporter Leah Cackowski breaks down the action from the field as Poudre gears up for Fairview on Thursday, while Rocky Mountain looks to rebound against another cross-town foe in Fort Collins on Friday. - On Friday Sept. 30, Canvas Stadium welcomed the four main Fort Collins Area high schools, Poudre, Fossil Ridge, Rocky Mountain, and Fort Collins for the inaugural Canvas Community Classic. The second matchup of the evening saw the Fossil Ridge Sabercats take on cross-town rival, the Fort Collins Lambkins in the annual battle for the Harmony Cup Trophy. The Sabercats got off to a strong start, getting up three touchdowns before the Lambkins would answer with a touchdown of their own in the second quarter. The Sabercats kept that momentum throughout the game and led big at half, 33-7. The Sabercat's running back turned quarterback Colton Pawlak had six touchdowns of the seven Sabercats touchdowns, four on the ground and two through the air. For the Lambkins, quarterback Ez Campos found success in the second half as he found wide receiver Kelly Ray for a 70-yd touchdown pass and later found Alex Augustine for a 15-yd touchdown.
