OMAHA, Neb. — The road gave way under two vehicles on Feb. 24 in Omaha, creating a sinkhole.

According to the Omaha Public Works Department, drivers in the Pacific Street area should plan for a closure that began Tuesday afternoon as crews respond to utility work tied to a water main break.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., Pacific Street between South 66th Street and South 67th Street was closed for utility work related to a water main break by the Metropolitan Utilities District. The closure is in place until further notice.

Officials said the sinkhole formed after a water main rupture eroded the soil beneath the pavement, causing the roadway to collapse under the weight of two passing vehicles. No serious injuries were immediately reported, though both vehicles sustained damage and were removed from the scene.
