- Description
- _______________FLINT, Mich. - A groundbreaking study, conducted in partnership with Michigan State and Brown universities, has identified an effective suicide prevention approach for individuals recently released from jail.
The federally funded trial, "Suicide Prevention for At-Risk Individuals in Transition," tracked 800 individuals from the Genesee County Jail and the Rhode Island Department of Corrections.
Jennifer Johnson, founding chair of MSU’s Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health, highlighted the challenge of identifying at-risk individuals who lack healthcare connections.
The study found that the "safety planning intervention," which involves supportive conversations and follow-up calls, reduced suicide risk by half.
Sheriff Chris Swanson emphasized the importance of building relationships during incarceration and maintaining contact post-release.

Federal agents are being pulled out of Minneapolis and the Trump administration’s crackdown in the state is coming to an end after several weeks of raids and enhanced activities that put the city on edge.
White House border czar Tom Homan announced Operation Metro Surge would wind down on Thursday, ending a monthslong saga that brought mass detentions, protests and the deaths of two protesters.
“As a result of our efforts here Minnesota is now less of a sanctuary state for criminals,” Homan said at a news conference. “I have proposed and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement started the operation on Dec. 1. Federal authorities said more than 4,000 people were arrested during the operation.

Still, the leak comes amid a turbulent year for the brand, following backlash over logo changes, abandoned restaurant renovations, and leadership decisions that drew national attention — even comments from President Donald Trump.
In this video, we break down what the memo actually says, how Cracker Barrel is responding, and how it fits into the company’s broader effort to reconnect with customers and redefine its brand.

- Michigan lawmakers are calling on Wayne State University to end research involving dogs, arguing the practice is outdated and unnecessary.
The push comes as renewed attention is being drawn to animal testing at the Detroit-based university, where dogs are reportedly used in medical research experiments. Supporters of the effort say advances in science have made live animal testing avoidable.
“This is something we should have moved away from a long time ago,” one lawmaker said. “There are alternatives that don’t involve harming animals.”
Legislation proposed at the state level would ban this type of research, with supporters arguing that modern technology allows scientists to conduct studies without using live animals. They say the issue is not just about compliance, but ethics.
“We can still advance medical research while treating animals humanely,” another supporter said.

“There’s no such thing as too late. Don’t think—just do,” Howie Mandel told us with a laugh, and a seriousness that has guided 21 seasons of “America’s Got Talent.”
Speaking with PauseRewind entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno at the Laugh Factory's “AGT” showcase in Hollywood on Feb. 2, Mandel reflected on his record-breaking run as the show’s longest-standing judge and why comedy remains at the heart of everything he does.
Now 70, Mandel shuts down the idea that age, timing, or being “too different” should stop anyone from taking a shot at their dreams. “Thinking is bad. Worrying doesn’t help anybody,” he says. “You do you. Be authentic, be real, and let the world serve you whatever it is you deserve.”

BAY CITY, Mich. — A new sensory experience is now open at Tummy Ache Candy Store in Bay City.
Owners of the candy store Starr and Michael Henning say this experience took three years of work to complete.
It's called "Sound of Silence" and it is a room in the back of the store. Filled with plants, crystals and other items that represent sounds and vibrations, Henning says the room was created to help customers get in tune with their senses.
As soon as you walk into the room you will hear unique noises, sounds and vibrations created by sensors that are attached to leaves of plants. The sensors take the vibrations and sounds emitted by the living plants and turns them into musical sounds.

- Description
- _______________
Michigan is grappling with a significant housing shortage, with the state falling short by approximately 119,000 housing units, according to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
Genesee County alone is lacking 7,000 units needed to meet the demands of its population. Shelly Hoffman, vice president and chief operating officer at the Shelter of Flint, highlighted the crisis, stating, "The housing crisis here is significant. We are seeing homelessness numbers rising because of it."
Jim Ananich, president and CEO of the Greater Flint Health Coalition, echoed these concerns, noting, "It's becoming a real problem. I know it's a problem everywhere, but it's very acute here in our town." Data from the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission indicates that the lack of affordable housing has caused demand to skyrocket, with many households spending 30% of their income on housing.

- CLINTONS STRIKE DEAL IN EPSTEIN PROBE
- Date posted
- Description
- _______________
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee in its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify on Feb. 26, followed by Bill Clinton on Feb. 27.
The agreement comes after weeks of legal disputes and threats of contempt charges from Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer, who accused the Clintons of defying congressional subpoenas. Attorneys for the Clintons argued the subpoenas were politically motivated, but negotiations ultimately led to mutually agreed-upon deposition dates.
The development follows renewed scrutiny surrounding Epstein after the release of images from his estate and continues to draw national attention as lawmakers weigh next steps in the investigation.

FLINT, Mich. - The Genesee County Board of Commissioners has postponed a decision on whether to continue using Flock cameras, following strong public opposition.
The cameras, installed throughout the county, are funded by a grant. Concerns were raised at a recent meeting about privacy and data collection.
One resident expressed, "I don't think this is good for the U.S. I don't think it's good for Michigan. I certainly don't think it's good for Genesee County."
Another resident, who initially supported the cameras, now opposes them due to privacy concerns.
