- Erie's Dark Secrets: Prohibition Era Revelations

- During the Prohibition era, Erie, Pennsylvania became a hub for rum running and bootlegging. Due to overfishing, some fishermen turned to smuggling alcohol. Fast boats were used to transport alcohol from Canada to Erie, and some of these boats were built by George Gamble. Some boats were equipped with Liberty Engines, which were originally designed for airplanes but were also ideal for fast boats.
