That act classified them as illegal occupiers. However, the family insists that their rights to that land are protected under the ESTA Act. The family also accuses officials at Mogale City Local Municipality of bending the rules to enable the process of their eviction by the developers.

In the current financial year, the Metro only managed to spend close to 40% of the Treasury grant after setting a target to spend more. The metro will hold its Council meeting today.

- Parties intending to contest the 2024 national and provincial elections had until 5pm on Monday to revise their lists, to inform the Electoral Commission if they had nominated candidates who also appeared on the list of another party, or who were nominated as independent candidates.
The Commission allocated two days - yesterday and today - to avail the lists with the names of independent and political party candidates for inspection.
This is to allow interested parties to make objections.
The lists will be available in all the IEC national offices, in provincial offices as well as local offices in each municipality.
The Commission says 14 662 candidates have been nominated to contest the 887 seats available in the National Assembly and the nine legislatures.
