- Yes, high immigration is making housing worse
- Date posted

- Description
- A poll finds that three in four Canadians say high immigration is worsening the housing crisis. Which isn’t all that surprising, because it’s just basic math. Canada built 219,942 new homes in 2022. And it brought in one million more people. The best case scenario is that every one of those new homes, which were mostly condos, housed exactly 4.5 people and we broke even. But that didn’t happen. - In this week’s video, John Ivison is joined by intelligence and defence analyst, Thomas Juneau, to talk about the implications for Canada of a second Donald Trump presidency. Trump is running neck-and-neck in recent polls with President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee. Juneau said the prospect of Trump Two is a “huge threat to Canada’s security and prosperity” - a threat that is accentuated by the Liberal Party’s efforts to link the Conservative Party with “far-right American politics”.

- Every reputable pollster in Canada has been in agreement for months that the next federal government will be Conservative, and that’s it’s likely going to be a majority. That’s typical after three terms of a Liberal government. But where this is getting weird is that there doesn’t appear to be a floor for Justin Trudeau’s unpopularity. - How “Canada” became a swear word at Canadian universities
- Date posted

- Description
- On the semi-frequent occasion that a Canadian student group issues a statement in support of Hamas terrorism, it often contains this term: “So-called Canada.” But it’s not a new term, and is commonly used by universities, academic journals and large non-profits. Canada – the name of the country where these groups operate and where they often draw government funding – is avoided like a swear word.

The thing about genocides is that they don’t typically result in a massive increase in the supposedly genocided population.

- The Trudeau government’s favourite metric when it comes to debt is debt-to-GDP. Yes, we’re adding $5 million in new federal debt every hour, but when you rank that against the growth of the economy it doesn’t seem as bad.
But an arguably more important metric is what it costs us to maintain all this debt. And that figure is absolutely through the roof.

You might figure that it’s just a way of endorsing Palestinian statehood. That might be the intention of a more ambiguous slogan like “free Palestine,” but “the river to the sea” one is very explicitly meant as a call for the total destruction of Israel.

In this week’s video, John Ivison talks to Benjamin Perrin, professor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia and author of a new book called Indictment, the Criminal Justice System on Trial.
Perrin was a key adviser to Stephen Harper’s government when it introduced tougher sentencing laws. Yet, in Indictment, he repudiates that approach and advocates a radically different plan for criminal justice that would divert resources from police forces and abolish the prison system as we know it.
He said he changed his mind after witnessing the rise in drug deaths in Vancouver and the resulting increase in crime and violence in the community.
