- Residents are declaring their local police heroes after a building in Wentworthville exploded in flames overnight.
Police noticed the blaze during a patrol on Station Street at around 4.10am this morning.
A resident recorded the heroic acts of the officers as they fought back flames and smoke during their rescue efforts.
Eight police officers were transported to hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Two men who lived in the building suffered burns and smoke inhalation. They were also transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Fire & Rescue NSW declared a 4th alarm structure fire after seeing the large blaze on approach. Crews from around Sydney responded to support the rescue operation.
The building collapsed and there are fears two occupants remain missing.
Fire crews dispatched USAR1, which is the specialist Urban Search & Rescue semi-trailer.

- At around 10.20pm, emergency services received a report that a male had fallen off a cliff at Hunter Reserve, near the end of Notts Avenue in Bondi Beach.
On arrival, paramedics were confronted with a male laying on the coastal walkway in extreme pain.
Intensive care paramedics worked hard to stabilise the male's injuries and administer pain relief. They were supported by eastern suburbs police and police rescue.
It's believed the male had fallen around 20 metres. Rocky and grass clumps on the cliff face may have greatly assisted the male from receiving the full force of the impact.
After 30 minutes of treatment on scene, the male was lifted carefully into a stokes litter and carried to a waiting ambulance.
The male was transported to St Vincent's hospital with suspected severe pelvic and lower limb injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the incident.

- At around 3.35am, Fire & Rescue NSW responded to reports of an electrical fire in Surry Hills at the intersection of Riley St & Collins St.
Specialist CO2 Hazmat crews were also assigned to the incident.
On arrival, crews were confronted with a large blaze, impacting three vehicles, a nearby building, and a tree.
Crews worked diligently to protect the property and managed to save one of the vehicles from being damaged.
A "Go Get" rental car was completely destroyed during the intense blaze.
Once confirmation was received that power was isolated to the 11,000V transformer, fire crews established a three point attack and blasted the transformer with water.
It was later discovered that an "unknown" resident had run a garden hose out in an attempt to fight the fire, but quickly gave up the fight and retreated back to their home.

- At around 6.45pm this evening, emergency services responded to reports of a missing surfer in the Gordon's Bay area, south of Clovelly Beach.
NSW Police, NSW Surf Life Saving, NSW Ambulance and Polair (Police Helicopter) attended the area and commenced a ground and air search.
Additional resources from the NSW Water Police and a Surf Life Saving boat were also dispatched.
A witness noticed a person disappear near the coast line and contacted emergency services.
It's believed this person was holding a surf board after being washed away by large waves near the rocky coastline.
Emergency services scoured the area with night vision, infrared and search lights, but were unsuccessful in locating any signs of life.
Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command are investigating the disappearance.

- At around 9.00pm last evening, residents from a unit block in Wairoa ave in Bondi were forced to evacuate after part of their roof was blown away.
The units facade was heavily damaged after the awning buckled due to suspected strong winds and heavy rain.
Bricks and other debris were strewn over the roadway causing road closures. A part of a hanging light ended up some 40 metres away.
Police were first to arrive and called for emergency assistance from Fire & Rescue NSW. A search of the debris was completed however no one was found trapped under the fallen awning.
A total of eleven people were evacuated and power was shut off to the residence.
The SES responded to around two hundred weather incidents during the storm event.
With the spring storm season around two weeks away, the SES reminds all residents about the importance of storm preparation in and around the home.

- An investigation is underway into the cause of yesterday's bush fires in Sydney's western suburbs and Blue Mountains.
A bushfire emergency was declared in a number of areas across NSW, these included Marsden Park, the Hawkesbury, Londonderry and Winmalee.
Back burning operations continued past sunset in Londonderry as an uncontrolled fire travelled to the east.
Strong winds, 30 degree temperatures and dry bushland were the key ingredients that fuelled the uncontrolled fires during the day.

- A 38-year-old man has been killed and a female has received significant lower limb injuries after a motorcycle accident in Sydney's east today.

- At around 2.25am, Fire & Rescue NSW responded to numerous triple zero calls to a building fire in O'Conner St, Chippendale.
On arrival crews upgraded the incident to a 3rd alarm structure fire as they were faced with a building totally engulfed in flames.
A witness to the blaze captured a large explosion as flames reached into the night sky.
Fire & Rescue surrounded all sides of the structure and were successful in preventing fire spread into neighbouring properties.
The warehouse operates a gym and martial arts centre.
No one was injured in the blaze and around 40 evacuations took place.
The building's roof has collapsed and the structure has been destroyed.

- The popular Dr Chris Brown has redeemed himself after finally completing the 14km marathon today.
Chris collapsed around 2km out from the finish line on Sunday suffering serious respiratory problems.
He was treated by Paramedics and rushed to hospital, but was given the all clear shortly after.
He has gained a reputation for finishing what he starts, and today at 9.30am, he recommenced the race 2km out from the finish line, just a little further away from where he collapsed. This time he had a support crew in tow, with Wippa from Nova 96.9 FM live broadcasting and following every step of the way.
Deano from the Bondi Lifeguards joined in and was on hand "just in case". Still feeling the slight effects from being ill on Sunday, Chris was able to finally finish the race in a record breaking 4 days, 2hrs and 1min.
Chris says it's all for a great cause, which is to support the work of the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter.

- Around 85,000 people participated in the annual 14km City2Surf race, and amongst them was the adored Dr Chris Brown from the hit TV show Bondi Vet.
At around midday a man and woman collapsed at the intersection of O'Donnell St and Military Rd, Bondi.
NSW Police, NSW SES and St John ambulance responded. They treated two patients prior to NSW Ambulance arriving. Paramedics took over medical operations, stabilising the man and woman, prior to transporting them to hospital.
NSW Ambulance stated a number of people were treated for various conditions such as heat exhaustion and limb injuries.
In a statement provided to Fairfax Media, Dr Chris Brown said he was recovering from a respiratory virus and collapsed 2km from the finish line.
He was supporting the Westpac Alpha team which was raising money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopters. He was transported to St Vincent's hospital and has since been released.

- At around 11:40pm residents in Moore St, Freshwater were evacuated after the top floor of a home was engulfed in flames.
The home which is still under construction received significant upper floor damage.
Neighbours feared their homes would also catch fire as the flames leaped into the night sky.
Fire & Rescue NSW were soon to arrive on scene and established high pressure hand lines and put the aerial fire fighting appliance "Ladder Platform" to work.
Fire crews managed to contain the fire to mainly the top floor and construction scaffolding.
Fire fighters managed to save neighbouring properties from being damaged.
One of the neighbours, Danny Vandine, a director of UpSide Down Productions evacuated his home. After checking on his neighbours he went to work and captured amazing vision of the blaze on his IPhone.

At around 11.30pm, it's understood a vehicle was travelling at high speed on Victoria Rd, Marrickville prior to losing control and colliding with a tree.
Witnesses stated that police were in pursuit of the vehicle prior to impact.
A large crime scene was established and crash investigators have thoroughly examined and documented the scene.
The 36 year old driver of the vehicle passed away on scene.

- At around 4.10pm emergency services were sent to reports of a missing teenager after he was swept down the rapids of a swollen creek near Fox Rd, East Ryde.
The sixteen year old used his school bag to keep himself afloat after he attempted to unsuccessfully cross the running water.
The teenager was luckily able to exit the running water further downstream, and was assisted by his grandmother.
Severe storms were overhead at the time of the incident and the water rapids were becoming stronger.
It's understood this schoolboy often crosses the stream and has been warned by his grandmother not to do so.
The male was assessed by paramedics and treated at hospital for cuts and abrasions as well as ingesting water.
He is reported to be in a stable condition at Royal North Shore Hospital.

- A significant number of emergency resources were tasked to the Caltex Oil Refinery in Port Botany.
At around 1.30am it's suspected a valve malfunction was a cause of a major fuel leak, which contained two million litres of unleaded petrol.
Around 130,000 litres gushed from the valve and into a safety holding area.
Workers were subjected to intense petrol fumes and two were transported to hospital for observation.
A fire-fighter was also taken to hospital for observation after suffering the ill effects of the fumes.
Fire Crews continued to spray foam over the affected tank to smother the risk of a large fire and explosion. Superintendent Tom Cooper from Fire & Rescue NSW said that additional resources from Kurnell were required to provide the extra foam.

- Emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle accident in Vaucluse overnight.
At around 8.00pm local residents witnessed what they believed was a vehicle travelling at high speed on Old South Head Rd.
Moments later, it's understood this vehicle collided with a stationary SUV with a passenger inside and then continued down the road, writing off two other cars and damaging a fourth.
The force of the impact was so great it crushed a parked Holden Astra, flinging it into the traffic lanes.
Local emergency responders from Hatzolah arrived on scene seconds after hearing the impacts, however no patients were located.

- Emergency services were called to Hyde Park near the intersection of Park St and Elizabeth St this afternoon after receiving reports of pedestrians being possibly trapped under a large Moreton Bay Fig Tree.
At around 3.10pm, the large tree collapsed onto the footpath. It's understood two mothers with their prams narrowly missed being crushed.
One patient was assessed by paramedics however did not require further treatment.
NSW Ambulance, Council rangers, NSW Police, Police Rescue and the State Emergency Service all responded to the incident.

Rear (Tailgate) externally mounted GoPro camera captures the terrifying sequence of events on El Reno EF5 Tornado.
A semi trailer was following storm spotter Daniel Shaw for a number of miles on I40 eastbound .
Around 50mph backing winds were present at the time.
Due to the very sudden loss of visibility on the road, Daniel was forced to slow down and stop on the interstate.
The lane markings on the road could not been seen.
Moments after coming to a stop and entering the left hand side edge of the El Reno tornado, the semi impacted with Daniel's vehicle.

- Emergency services rushed to the coastline south of Coogee beach after a divers buoy was found without its diver attached.
Surf Life Saving from Coogee and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter were tasked to the rescue.
The depths of the ocean were scoured by both the Westpac diver and surf life savers, but neither were able to locate the missing diver.
Residents watched the rescue unfold from the cliff tops fearing the worst. Eventually the diver emerged, however he was not in the ocean.
The diver approached rescuers on the shore to advise he was ok. Yesterday, his spear gun was wedged in the rocks underwater and the swell forced him to abandon the recovery until today.
He simply didn't realise that emergency services needed to be contacted to advise of his abandoned equipment, especially his buoy. If he had done so, the search operation would have never needed to take place.

- This long weekend's police operation on road safety has received more sobering statistics after separate incidents in Bellevue Hill and Mascot.
At around 8.40pm residents in Victoria Rd, Bellevue Hill were startled by sounds of a loud crash. A resident who lived adjacent to the crash was confronted with an overturned Jeep with a male trapped inside.
He rushed to the aid of the gentleman and helped him out of the vehicle. As soon as he was freed he fled the scene of the accident. A thank you for the civilian rescuer was not received.
It's understood he returned to the scene with a family member a short time later and it's believed this family member allegedly misinformed police that they were driving the vehicle. It understood police did not accept this explanation and continued to test the young man with a breath analysis.

- Parramatta Road in Sydney's west is best known for its traffic gridlock and car dealerships, however last night it played a role as a conduit for a re-creation of an ancient religious ceremony celebrated by the Christian faithfuls.
For drivers travelling along the arterial road throughout the night it was a sight to behold. The norm is being stuck in gridlock traffic. Last night was all about ensuring you merged to make room for the masses of pilgrims that seem to stretch on for well over a kilometre.
The pilgrimage walk starts every year at the Holy Family Church in East Granville and travels 24.3kms along Parramatta Road towards St Mary's Cathedral in the Sydney CBD.

Paramedics called for urgent police assistance whilst assessing an unconscious male victim.
It's understood that during this patient's assessment, three men set upon another male knocking him to the ground.
Additional ambulances were requested whilst the alleged offenders fled the scene.
The three men escaped in a white Mitsubishi sports car bearing Queensland registration plates.
One patient was initially assessed as being unconscious and unresponsive to paramedics. An intensive care ambulance was dispatched to assist.

- NSW Police will be launching their yearly Easter road safety campaign this morning, however some drivers have appeared to have assisted with some early statistics.
At around 11.30pm last evening, locals were alerted by the sounds of a car accident on Broughton St, Kirribilli.
One witness saw a male escape a white Toyota Aurion and flee the scene, whilst another witness saw the same male hiding in bushes nearby.
Both airbags deployed leaving a blood trail from the driver. It's understood the car keys were left in the ignition.
Police and Paramedics responded to the scene but arrived to discover the empty car.
The force of the collision shunted a parked vehicle onto the footpath. The owner, Zia Flook said that she had only recently serviced the vehicle. She hopes the driver is not hurt but wishes him to be caught and prosecuted.

At around 1am NSW police responded with NSW Ambulance to assist a male who had been allegedly stabbed in the abdomen.
Patrons told FreeNews that the lights came on and the music stopped. Word quickly spread that a male had been stabbed.

- NSW Police have commenced investigations into a collision between a taxi and sports car overnight.
At around 10.15pm emergency services responded to reports that a taxi had collided with a Lamborghini.
The taxi ended up colliding with a building on Harris St, Pyrmont. Two people were trapped inside the taxi and were rescued by emergency services.
Police Rescue supported by Fire & Rescue NSW, extricated the driver and female passenger. Both were transported to hospital in an unknown condition.
A Lamborghini Gallardo sustained significant front and side damage during the crash. The driver escaped injury.

- Eastern suburbs police are searching for a group of men who took part in an alleged drunken carjacking late last night.
At around 11.30pm, a taxi driver picked up four men from a pub on Bronte Rd, Bondi Junction.
A short time later the driver was forced to stop due to passenger behaviour. The driver exited the vehicle and told the passengers to do the same, however one of the men had other ideas on how he would get home.
Police allege that one of the men decided to jump into the driver seat and took off, leaving the taxi driver and his other three mates behind.
The offender's alleged drunken carjacking incident did not last very long. Around a minute later, the stolen taxi was seen reversing into another pub in Nelson Street, Bondi Junction.

- Emergency services from across the metropolitan area responded to a serious balcony collapse in Lane Cove overnight.
At around 10.00pm, residents and neighbours contacted NSW ambulance after ten people fell when their balcony gave way.
The first arriving paramedics were confronted with eight patients who required treatment. Five of these patients were in a serious condition. Injuries varied from cuts and abrasions to the more serious; including limb, pelvic, and spinal trauma.
NSW Ambulance responded a total of six ambulances, medical team (Doctor) and SCAT paramedics.
It took around an hour to process and assess all the patients, most who were aged around 20-30 years old.

- Emergency services expedited to the scene of a shocking building accident this morning.
At around 10.15am, crews from Fire & Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Police descended upon a building site in Pine Avenue, Earlwood.
The 17-year-old male who was working on the building site became trapped from the waist down as the massive concrete slab crushed his body against the side of a 4 foot trench.
His workmates rushed to his assistance and raised the alarm for help. Workers from "Energy Alliance" who were nearby on another building site heard the screams for help, and they rushed over to assist the other builders.
Prior to the arrival of emergency services, the builders used their ingenuity to secure an excavator to prevent the concrete slab from shifting any further.

- Emergency services responded to reports of a fire in an underground car park in Eastbourne Rd, Darling Point.
At around 8.00pm, Fire & Rescue NSW arrived at the apartments to discover the basement car park thick with smoke.
Residents began evacuating their units, however it's understood one of the occupants wedged a fire door open, allowing the smoke to travel through the entire twenty floor complex.
Around one hundred and forty people were evacuated.
Paramedics assisted three elderly residents and remained on standby to treat any patients suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
No one sustained any injuries and fire crews with the assistance of the NSW police managed to evacuate the entire building without incident.

- The Australian Bureau of Meteorology forecast severe weather to hit the NSW coast and their predictions were correct.
A low pressure system worked its way along the coast and struck Sydney at around 1.00am. Some of Sydney's hardest hit were the suburbs Malabar and Chifley.
Emergency services from the NSW Police, SES, NSW Ambulance & Fire & Rescue NSW were deployed across numerous streets.
Many residents were woken by the loud sounds of the wind and debris flying around their neighbourhood, whilst others were wide awake when the storm struck.
One resident in Malabar lost sixty precent of his roof when the high winds passed through, whilst another man in Chifley "Harry", lost his roof with the structure falling on him during the power blackout.
Many thought that a tornado hit the area, however after careful assessment it appears that "straight line winds**" was the direct cause for all the damage.

- Emergency services responded to a serious car accident this afternoon.
At around 4.15pm it's understood that a vehicle lost control, ploughed through a number of shrubs and embedded itself into a newly constructed building.
Fire & Rescue NSW initially responded to a fire alarm, however the call was upgraded to a persons trapped accident as the vehicle had completely severed the main hydrant system.
Water supply was stopped into the hydrant distribution system so emergency services could perform the rescue operation.
Two patients were stabilised and treated whilst trapped in their vehicle.
After around 30 minutes both were extracted and transported to hospital.
Witnesses were shocked by the collision and residents reported that it sounded like a bomb exploding.
Police have closed sections of the road whilst investigations take place.

- Police are investigating a series of serious crimes which are believed to be linked.
At around 11.45pm three men were allegedly attacked and property stolen by two offenders in Mary Anne St and Harris St, Ultimo.
The offenders fled the scene in a BMW which was believed to be grey in colour.
Minutes later, a 31-year-old woman was approached by three males in Ada St, Pyrmont. The alleged offenders demanded her bag and she surrendered her property.
It's understood a Green BMW was involved in a number of high speed pursuits throughout the CBD and Eastern Suburbs.
At around 12.45am two police cars which were responding to these pursuits, collided into each other in King St, Newtown.
One police officer was treated for possible spinal injuries and was placed in a cervical collar. He is understood to be uninjured and is expected to make a full recovery.

- NSW Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision in Acacia Ave Punchbowl.
At around 2.45pm emergency services were contacted after a car collided with a house.
Police state that the car failed a negotiate the road, struck a power pole and lodged itself into the corner of the home.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital in a serious condition whilst two passengers escaped injury.
An 11-year-old boy who was in the damaged room of the home suffered a head laceration and was taken to Liverpool hospital.
Three other children and a mother who were inside at the time were assessed for shock.

- NSW Police conducted "Operation Rushmore 4" which was run over the course of the weekend to target alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour in Sydney's CBD.
Hotspots included: The Rocks, George St, Oxford St and Kings Cross, with patrols in both high visibility and unmarked vehicles.
Police have run special operations targeting alcohol related violence for a number of years, and police are pleased with this weekend's success.
In excess of 260 police were out in the streets, on public transport and on the water.
Officers attached to the OSG (Operational Support Group) supported local patrols along with a raft of other police resources.
This proactive approach to roaming the streets is a proven method to tackle problems before they begin.

- NSW Police are investigating a hit and run accident in Knox St, Double Bay.
At around 2.45am it's alleged that a taxi driver was talking to a male prior to driving off with the male still leaning inside the taxi's passenger window.
Witnesses reported that the male was knocked to the ground prior to the driver reversing over his lower limbs.
The taxi fled the scene and did not render aid to the gentleman.
The 27-year-old South African national was rushed to St Vincent's hospital for treatment.
The victim suffered facial wounds and lower limb injuries but is understood to be in a stable condition.
Police are appealing for the driver to come forward.
Five witnesses to the incident were able to supply detailed information about the taxi and driver.

- Police are investigating an incident involving a male and two taxis in William St, Sydney.
At around 1.45am it's understood a male aged around 25 years, attempted to enter a taxi which was travelling eastbound along William St, Sydney.
It's alleged that the rear passenger door was opened by the male in an attempt to jump in whilst the taxi was travelling in heavy traffic.
It's believed that the door flew open and collided with another taxi before being ripped off its hinges.
The side mirror of a second taxi was also destroyed in the impact.
Taxi drivers confronted the alleged offender who made the decision to flee prior to police arriving.

- Emergency services responded to reports that a car was driven at high speed off a boat ramp and into Cooks River at Holbeach Ave, Tempe.
At around 2.45am a witness contacted triple zero after hearing a loud splash and seeing the vehicle submerging into the murky waters.
Police Rescue, Ambulance and Fire & Rescue all responded believing that someone may have been trapped inside the vehicle.
Police entered the water and assessed the car was empty and began the long and difficult process of extracting the car.
After around an hour, the vehicle was towed back to shore and investigations revealed the car to be stolen.

- Emergency services responded to assist a female after she fell from a balcony at her home at Gap Rd, Vaucluse.
At around 10pm, paramedics from Paddington ambulance station were dispatched and arrived to discover a lady in distress after being impaled on a nearby fence.
Additional paramedic resources were assigned to the incident and a second ambulance, supervisor and doctors responded.
Rose Bay police and the ambulance supervisor diverted to Christison Park to await the arrival of the MRU Rescue Helicopter, the specialist medical team were transported under police escort to the incident.
NSW Police Rescue assisted with the delicate operation.
Doctors and Paramedics stabilised the patient prior to transporting her to St Vincent's hospital.
The patient is understood to be in a stable condition and is being assessed by the trauma team in hospital.
The accident is not believed to be suspicious.

- At around 9.30pm it's understood that a pedestrian who was fleeing from the wet weather startled a passing motorist heading eastbound on Glenmore Rd near the five way roundabout in Paddington.
The driver of the vehicle swerved to miss the pedestrian but lost control and ploughed into a keep left sign, continued into a bus stop and finally came to rest in the front of a shopfront.
A resident heard the accident and assisted the 24-year-old female from the wreckage.
Paramedics assessed the lady and she was treated for shock.
Fire & Rescue NSW attended to clean up an oil spill and taped off the shopfront to protect pedestrians.
The owner of the store, Pamela Hardy said that nothing like this has ever happened to her during the last thirteen years she has been operating her business.
The building suffered significant damage to the window and structural support.

- NSW Police have commenced investigations into a hit and run accident early this morning.
At around 2.30am paramedics were called Darling St in Balmain after they received calls to assist a young male.
It's believed a vehicle mounted the footpath hitting the male and dragged him for an unknown distance.
Paramedics treated the male for serious abrasions and a head injury. He was placed in a cervical collar as a precaution.
Police have reported that they have strong leads into the incident and are searching for the driver.
